Before Packing

Keep it simple.

Avoid cottonChoose quick-drying synthetic or wool clothing for backpacking trips.

Pack only what is listedExtra items add weight quickly and usually do not improve the trip.

Share patrol gearOne or two first-aid kits per patrol is generally sufficient.

One or two pairs of hiking socks One or two pairs of wicking liner socks Hiking boots or shoes suited to the terrain

Camping gear

Backpack Pack cover Tent Sleeping bag in a waterproof stuff sack Compression sack Sleeping pad Bowl Spoon Cup or mug Two liters of water capacity

Toothbrush and toothpaste Small bath towel
